CARSON --
DJ Guest led all scorers with 16 points while adding seven rebounds, but visiting Chico State boasted four players in double-figure scoring as the Wildcats never trailed en route to a 62-55 win over the Toros today in Carson.
CSUDH drops to 8-12 overall with its fifth-straight setback, dipping to 4-10 in the CCAA.
The two teams split the game's first 12 points before the Wildcats went on a 13-4 run to take a 19-10 lead at the 7:39 mark of the first half.
Behind a pair of
Damien Miller free throws, five-straight points courtesy of Guest, and a
Cameron Barry jumper, CSUDH crept to within 21-19 two minutes later. That's as close as the Toros would get the rest of the frame, however, as the Wildcats entered intermission up 35-25.
The hosts shaved their deficit in half after the break, with a
David Cheatom triple knotting the contest at the 14:10 mark. After Chico upped its edge back up to six, a
Jeremy Dent-Smith triple and Cheatom layup brought CSUDH to within one.
The Wildcats, however, answered again, going on a 14-5 run over the next five minutes to seize control of the game at 59-49, eventually settling for the 62-55 win.
Barry added 14 points in the loss, with point guard Miller tying for game-high honors with eight boards.
CSUDH will look to stop its skid on Thursday at CS San Bernardino, with first tipoff set for 7:30 pm.
