CARSON – The No. 4 Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer was tested by Cal State San Marcos' aggressiveness right from kickoff. But the Toros didn't seem bothered by it as they scored three goals in the first half and cruised in the second half to a 4-0 win at Toro Stadium Friday evening.
The Toros, off to their best start since the 2008 national championship season, remain undefeated at 8-0-2 while improving to 2-0-1 in the CCAA.
Both sides started off the match fast and physical. San Marcos (4-5-1, 2-1-0 CCAA) was quick on the attack with two shots in the first minute of play.
The Cougars became silent thanks to
Sulaiman Bah, who scored the first two goals in 21 minutes. His first goal in the ninth minute came off a beautiful cross from
Jhoel Sarraude and in the 21
st minute
Martin Velasquez, took a corner kick into a crowded goal box where Bah was there to knock it in for his 10
th goal in the season, which moved him to second most in NCAA Division II.
Nick Walker put the match out of reach in the 35
th minute with his first goal of the season and gave the Toros a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Danny Hernandez completed the 4-0 score in the 86
th minute with his first goal of the season.
Dominguez Hills dominated the shots column 20-7 overall, 9-2 on goal.
Despite the physicality of the match containing six yellow cards, only 20 total fouls were recorded.
The Toros welcome Cal State San Bernardino to Toro Stadium Sunday at a rare 5 p.m. start.
