CARSON -- Coming off a four-set loss to Cal State LA last night, No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino got back on the winning track after a 25-18, 25-11, 25-13 sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a matinee matchup this afternoon in the Torodome.
Samaya Royal (pictured) and
Ava Hurry tallied seven kills apiece in the loss.
The Yotes wasted little time in the opener after taking a 10-3 lead on the hosts before consecutive errors brought CSUDH to within 10-5. That respite proved just a blip as CSUSB pushed its lead to 15-7, only to have a Hurry kill and
Angelina Robles service aces shaved two points off CSUDH's deficit.
The Coyotes, however, kept the Toros at arm's length the rest of the way en route to the 7-point opening set win.
CSUDH looked to even the match in the second, but faced a 12-5 deficit early on. A
Shelby Saporetti kill ended CSUSB's run of five-straight points, only to have the Yotes turn their 18-11 advantage in to a runaway after earning the set's final seven points.
After the Toros scored the first point of set three, the visitors reeled off six-straight to gain control of the frame, pushing their lead to 12-5 midway through the set. After the Toros earned two-straight to counter, CSUSB went on a 5-0 run to push its lead to 17-7, eventually winning the set by 12.
The Toros hit just .060 in the loss while the perennial power Coyotes made just eight hitting errors.
CSUDH takes to the road next weekend, beginning Friday at Cal State Monterey Bay.
