POMONA -- Looking to begin its California Collegiate Athletic Association ledger on a high note, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback at the hands of host Cal Poly Pomona in the CCAA opener for both squads.
Rahel Stone notched the lone shot on goal for the visitors as CSUDH managed just five total shots on the afternoon.
The Broncos displayed their aggressive play to open the match, tallying a 6-2 edge on shots. That paid dividends in the 39th minute with Liberty Ortiz sent a screamer past Toro keeper
Alyssa Newsom to the top right corner to give the hosts a 1-0 lead entering the break.
CPP continued its assault after halftime, doubling CSUDH's shot output, 6-3.
The Toro defense, however, kept its offense in the game by keeping the Broncos off the scoreboard over the final 45 minutes. Its offense, however, was unable to equalize, resulting in the 1-0 decision.
CSUDHÂ will look to right the ship on Sunday as it travels to crosstown-rival Cal State LA for a 2 pm first kick.
