Volleyball Stifled by East Bay in 3-0 Loss

HAYWARD -- Visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills began its CCAA roadtrip on a sour note after host Cal State East Bay limited the Toros to just a .107 hitting percentage en route to a 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 sweep of the cardinal and gold.

Ava Hurry led CSUDH with seven kills with all five Toro aces coming from the strong serve of Angelina Robles.

The Pioneers looked to leave little doubt after racing out to a 7-1 lead to open the match.  Behind five-consecutive points off of Jenna Sandall's serve, the Toros knotted the frame at 7.

That's when the Pios went on a 10-4 run to regain control of the set, running away with the nine-point win.

The Toros looked to even the match after taking an early 4-2 lead, increasing it to 8-4 after a Pio attack error.  The hosts, however, went on a 13-5 run to take a 17-13 lead before CSUDH caught CSUEB at 18 on a host service error.

Tying again four times, the last at 22-all, CSUEB outscored the Toros 3-1 down the stretch to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The two teams split set three's 24 points before East Bay used a 3-1 run to take a 15-13 lead.  That advantage increased to 18-14, before the Toros got as close as 22-20 after a pair of attack errors by the Pios.

CSUEB regrouped, however, putting away two balls to bring up match point, where a Megan Crecelius service aces put an end to the set, and the match.

Sandall added six kills in the loss, with Samaya Royal chipping in five.

CSUDH, now 3-7 overall, and 1-2 in the CCAA, goes for a road split on Saturday as it travels to CS San Marcos, with first serve set for 3 pm.
