CARSON -- Entering the 2022 season with high expectations after being picked to finish third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association preseason coaches' poll, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team began its 2022 campaign with a bang after blanking visiting Academy of Art 2-0 behind a pair of first half goals from
Sulaiman Bah, who earned 2nd-team All-CCAA selection last season.
CSUDH won its second-straight season-opener to move to 1-0, while the Urban Knights fall to 0-1.
Bah got the hosts on the board before the seats got warm, taking a
Martin Velasquez feed and sending a liner to the lower left of the net for a quick lead just 6:08 into the period.
The sophomore doubled his pleasure and the Toro lead 15 minutes later, duplicating his first goal's effort with a liner to the lower left of the net.
That was plenty as the staunch Toro defense notched its first shutout of the year after netting four last season.
CSUDH pummeled AAU's defense with 13 shots, with six on goal, also tallying seven corners to three in the solid win.
Newcomer
Sebastian Ascencio notched three saves in his Toro debut to pick up the win.
Bah led the offense with four shots, with three on goal, while Velasquez rattled off three shots, with one on frame.
The Toros continue their non-conference schedule on Saturday, traveling to Concordia University for a 6 pm kickoff.
