TURLOCK – Going up against the NCAA West Region's best hitting team in Simon Fraser, the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team had another pitcher's duel between
Alyssa Olague and Anissa Zacharzcuk. However, it was a solo home run in the fourth inning that propelled Simon Fraser to a 1-0 win over the Toros on the final day of the Tournament of Champions Sunday.
Despite the loss, the Toros exit TOC with a 3-2 record.
Hailing from Canada, Simon Fraser entered the weekend owning the best batting average in the region at .351. Olague was excellent once again, going five innings with seven strikeouts and issuing just one walk and two hits. Wies threw a shutout sixth inning with a hit and a strikeout.
Simon Fraser's Anissa Zacharczuk went from start to finish, striking out seven and allowing four hits.
Kianna Abellera was the only Toro to record multiple hits.
The Toros' only extra base hit in the game was a critical one in the seventh inning, when
Maiya Lopez doubled with one out. However, the Toros couldn't come up with the clutch hit to drive in the tying run.
The Toros will finish the rest of the regular season in conference play, starting with a road trip to San Francisco State. The series in the City by the Bay begins Friday at 1 p.m.
Dominguez Hills (26-14) is currently tied for third with Sonoma State at 14-10 with three series left to play.
