Toros Take Bite Out of Gators With Sweep

SAN FRANCISCO -- With just three weeks left in the regular season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team took two huge steps forward against San Francisco State this afternoon, taking 5-1 and 4-3 wins over the Gators to help move them closer to becoming one of six teams eligible that qualify for the upcoming CCAA Tournament.

CSUDH remains in third place in league play with 10 games remaining.

The opener saw pitcher Alyssa Olague continue her resurgence, tossing 4.2 innings to pick up her 13th win of the year.

Raquel Jaime wielded the big stick, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in in the 5th that accounted for the game winner.

Alex Davis added a pair of hits while Chenoa Au scored twice in the win as Olague scattered just three hits with five Ks.

The nightcap saw CSUDH take a quick 2-0 lead on RBI doubles by reigning CCAA Player of the Week Kaylee Hull and Davis, only to have the hosts answer with single runs in the 3rd, 5th and 6th innings to take a 3-2 lead.

That didn't last long, however, as Claudia Valencia gave the Toros the lead for good in their final at-bat, clubbing a no-doubter to score Jaime ahead of her.

With the potential tying run at second base and one out in the Gators half of the seventh, the Toros saw a brilliant double play by shortstop Haylee Garcia, who snagged a line drive and made a throw to second base for Au to make the tag and end the game.

Olague went the distance for her 14th win, fanning two in the process.

The two teams wrap up their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one set for 11 am.
