Olague Strikes Out 15 Again as Toros Take Wins Over Biola, Saint Martin's

TURLOCK -- Eight days ago, Alyssa Olague struck out 15 batters against one of the top contenders in the CCAA and the NCAA West Region. On Saturday, the junior right-hander reached her career mark again only this time it was against the first place team in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team routed Saint Martin's 8-0 behind Olague's gem after taking a 2-0 edging victory over the PacWest Conference's Hawai`i Hilo.

Game 1: CSUDH 2, Biola 0
It was all pitching between the two ballclubs. Although Biola starter Paige Austin threw the entire game, the tandem of Ashley Wies and Alyssa Olague prevailed as the winners. Wies threw five solid innings, striking out four batters and didn't give up a walk. She also surrendered only two of the three Eagle hits. Olague went the rest of the way for her second save of the season, giving up just a walk and a hit.

The eventual winning run came in the second inning. Maiya Lopez led off with a base hit up the middle and was subbed in by Jonessa Hebreo. Kaylee Hull laided down a sacrifice bunt that resulted an error by the catcher that allowed Hebreo to take third base. Katelyn Sturm followed with another sacrifice bunt that resulted in a run for the Toros.

Dominguez Hills' insurance run came in the sixth inning. Claudia Valencia was hit by the pitch to start the inning. She stole second and reached third on a fielder's choice and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Game 2: CSUDH 8, Saint Martin's 0
The nightcap saw Olague put together another gem outing in the circle. Much like she she did against then-No. 22 Chico State on March 25, Olague didn't issue a walk to go along with the 15 strikeouts. She did concede three hits in the game.

The Toros did all the scoring they needed in the first inning. Raquel Jaime and Maiya Lopez drew back-to-back, two-out walks and then Kaylee Hull singled in Jaime and in a double-steal attempt, Lopez scored in the second run. In the third inning, Kianna Abellera led off with a single and Valencia homered to left center to give the Toros a 4-0 lead.

Dominguez Hills did much more damage in the seventh. Chenoa Au led off with a single, Valencia drew a walk and Jaime hit a single to drive in Au. Valencia would score on a wild pitch and then Hull doubled to score in pinch-runner Angelina Alderette.

Hull finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Valencia went 2-for-3 with the two RBIs as well.

The Toros wrap up their visit at Tournament of Champions Sunday against the GNAC's Simon Fraser. The school from neighboring Canada entered the weekend with the best batting average in the region.
