CARSON – After helping lead her team to a sweep over at San Francisco State last weekend, Cal State Dominguez Hills senior outfielder Claudia Valencia was voted the CCAA Player of the Week Monday.
 
It is the second straight week Dominguez Hills took home a conference weekly honor and the fourth this season. Kaylee Hull won it last week, Maiya Lopez on March 14 and Ashley Wies won pitching honors on February 28.
 
Valencia had an excellent weekend in the City by the Bay, going 7-for-14 with a double, a home run and six RBIs. She also went a perfect 3-for-3 in the stolen base column. While defending left field, Valencia made 13 putouts and has one outfield assist.
 
After being unable to knock in a run in game one, Valencia went on to drive in two runs each the rest of the series. Her lone home run of the game two proved to be the difference in the Toros' 4-3 win. The two times she reached home plate in game three were the eventual deciding factor in scoring.
 
Valencia and her fellow seniors will be playing their final games at Toro Diamond this weekend, hosting first-place Cal State San Marcos. First pitch on Friday is at 1 p.m. and on Saturday the seniors will be joined by the Super Seniors in a pre-game ceremony before the noon start.
 
The Toros are on the verge of clinching a spot to the CCAA Tournament. The magic number to clinch is two.
