Hull Slugs Her Way into the Record Book as Toros Take Series at Sonoma

ROHNERT PARK – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team appeared to have been going offensively silent again Saturday morning when Sonoma State put seven runs on the board in three innings.

Then came Kaylee Hull.

The freshman knocked in a new program record eight RBIs and Kianna Abellera's two-run shot in the seventh inning lifted the Toros to a 12-10 come-from-behind slugfest game-one win.

Then after seven scoreless innings in game two, Raquel Jaime and Hull came up clutch in the eighth to ensure a 2-1 extra-inning win to take the CCAA series.

The Toros return home 16-7 overall and 7-5 in the CCAA.

GAME 1 – CSUDH 12, SSU 10
The slugfest started with the Seawolves in the first inning, when they knocked in four runs off of Ashley Wies. Alyssa Olague took over in the first and stopped the bleeding. She did pitch a shutout second inning but Sonoma answered with three runs off of her to take a 7-0 lead.

Dominguez Hills' comeback started out in the fourth inning. Raquel Jaime led off with a walk and was subbed in for Haylee Garcia. While she was on third, a coaching argument with the umpires motivated the Toros as Garcia was able to score on Amara Labonog's RBI fielder's choice and Hull followed with three of her eight RBIs on a home run to opposite right field to slice Sonoma's lead to 7-4.

The following inning, Dominguez Hills had two outs with Claudia Valencia on second and Katelyn Sturm on first. Dafne Bravo came up with a pinch-hit single to load the bases and Hull cleared the bases with a double to tie the game at seven apiece. Maiya Lopez followed with a RBI double as well to give the Toros the first lead of the day.

It was short-lived as the Seawolves tied the game in their half of the fifth. The Toros grabbed the lead again in the sixth inning on Hull's record-breaking moment. Jaime and Valencia reached base on base hits and Hull knocked both of them in with a single to collect her seventh and eighth RBI in the game.

Sonoma kept pace with Dominguez Hills as it responded with two runs to tie the game at 10.

In the seventh inning, Chenoa Au reached base on an error and Kianna Abellera's first home run as a Toros broke the tie and give them a 12-10 lead.

Despite being tagged with seven runs, Wies got the win giving up seven hits and a walk in 3.1 innings. Olague hurled 3.2 innings and struck out five.

Game 2 – CSUDH 2, SSU 1 (8 Innings)
It was very much the opposite for the two ballclubs in the afternoon cap of the series comparing to game one. Although the Toros collected 10 hits and the Seawolves had five, neither side couldn't plate in a runner at any point during the scheduled innings. Wies rebounded from her first game performance by striking out five and giving up two walks in a complete-game outing to earn her 10th win of the season. On the other side, Sonoma's Camille Rodrigues also went from start to finish and had fanned five.

In the eighth inning, Chenoa Au led off with a walk and advanced to third on Abellera's double, setting up for Jaime and Hull to single both runners home and give the Toros a 2-0 lead.

The Seawolves answered back with a one-out triple and a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 result.

The Toros return home to welcome Cal State San Bernardino Friday and Saturday. Both games are at noon.
