CARSON – Facing perhaps the most difficult opponent in the conference schedule, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team kept pace with No. RV/20 Cal State San Marcos for three quarters, but the Cougars dominate the fourth to post a 72-61 win over the Toros Saturday at the Torodome.
The Toros fall to 9-9 overall and 7-6 in the CCAA, dropping them to sixth in the CCAA standings with six games remaining.
Although Snowden was the only Toro to reach double figures in points, the entire lineup contributed with points. They all ended the day shooting 35.4 percent from the field.
The Cougars were led by Jordan Vasquez, who scored 22 points including 10 field goals to continue leading the conference in field goal percentage.
Free throws turned out to be a difference in the game. The Cougars went 15-for-20 on the line while the Toros went 9-for-11.
After the Toros won the opening period, 20-17, the Cougars responded to a 15-13 run to take a 33-32 lead into halftime. The Toros kept the deficit to within five until the fourth quarter.
