Toros Gets Back to Winning Ways at Humboldt

ARCATA – Asia Jordan scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season as a critical second-quarter win proved to be just enough points for Cal State Dominguez Hills to beat the newly-named Cal Poly Humboldt 60-53 at Lumberjack Arena to sweep the season series Thursday evening.

The win proved to be critical for the Toros. They not only picked up their 10th in of the season, but they improved to 8-6 in the CCAA to keep the 'Jacks (7-11, 6-8 CCAA) behind the Toros in the tight conference standings with five games to be played. The victory also bumped the Toros into fourth place in the standings.

The Toros will be hoping a return to Lumberjack Arena next month, which will be the host of the 2022 CCAA Men's & Women's Basketball Tournaments from March 3-5.

Jordan was the only Toro to have reached double figures in both points and rebounds. Auren Isaacson, currently fighting a cold when it comes to scoring, dropped only nine points – all from 3-point range – while Deejanae Poland finished with eight points.

Dominguez Hills had benefited from Humboldt's 24 turnovers, scoring 20 points off those mistakes.

Although the Toros had a 16-15 edge in the first quarter, the second quarter was all Cardinal & Gold, which they outscored the 'Jacks 21-14 to take a 37-29 lead into halftime.

The Toros had led by as many as 13 near the end of the third quarter. Humboldt would get to within five points or more the rest of the game.

Dominguez Hills makes its way to wine country Saturday to play Sonoma State, another team chasing the Toros in the standings. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. The Toros beat the Seawolves 53-45 in the Torodome last month.
