Wies Picks Up Two Wins in Warrior-Like Sweep Over Warriors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARSON -- Sophomore pitcher Ashley Wies out-warriored visiting Stanislaus State as the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team took a pair from the Warriors today on Toro Diamond, improving their record to 13-6 overall, and 4-4 in the CCAA.

Wies picked up all three wins on the weekend, improving to 7-1 overall.

Wies and Alyssa Olague teamed to hold the Warriors to just three hits in the opener as the Toros picked up the 4-1 win.

The Toros earned all the runs they would eventually need in the 3rd inning after a Chenoa Au double scored Alex Davis, with Au scoring herself one batter later on a Sydney Diaz perfectly placed liner down the left field line.

Maiya Lopez provided insurance one frame later as her baseknock brought home Claudia Valencia to make the score 3-0.  Lopez again made her presence felt in the 6th, stroking a single to right field to bring home Diaz, leaving the Warriors one last chance in the top of the 7th.

In that frame, Stan State got on the board on an RBI double and had runners at the corners with Lauryn Serda representing the tying run.  With the count 2-1, Serda lined a sinking line drive to right field, but Davis made a shoestring catch to preserve the 4-1 win.

Wies tossed 5.0 innings to move to 6-1, while Olague went the final 2.0 innings.

In the nightcap, Wies picked up where she left off, scattering just three hits with four punchouts.

CSUDH scored the only run it would eventually need in the 1st inning, using a Raquel Jaime single and throwing error by the Warrior right fielder to score Au.

That's where the score remained until the 5th when Davis hammered the first offering she saw deep over the left field fence to bring home Jonessa Hebreo, who entered as a pinch runner one batter earlier.

Cal State Dominguez Hills hits the road next weekend, traveling to Sonoma State for a four-game series that starts Friday.
