Toros Split Pair With Visiting Warriors

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills opened its Friday doubleheader against Stanislaus State on the right foot with a 4-1 win, only to see the visiting Warriors regroup for a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.

With the split, CSUDH moves to 11-6 overall, and 2-4 in the CCAA.

The opener score both teams score in the first inning, with a Maiya Lopez sacrifice fly knotting the game at 1-1.  Lopez gave CSUDH the lead for good two innings later with an RBI knock to center, bringing home Chenoa Au with what proved to be the game-winner.

Au took her turn in the RBI column with a double that scored Sydney Diaz in the 4th, while Claudia Valencia closed the scoring with an RBI single of her own to score Au later in the inning.

That was plenty for the duo of Alyssa Olague and Ashley Wies, the latter picking up the win after 6.0 innings of work with 8 strikeouts and no walks.

Au and Raquel Jaime both tallied two hits in the win.

In the nightcap, the Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd, only to have Kianna Abellera cut the Toro deficit in half with a single that scored Au.

Stan State, however, added an insurance run in the 6th, accounting for the game's final tally.

Olague took the loss after just 2.0 innings of work, fanning four but allowing two walks.

The two teams conclude their four-game series tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one set for 11 am on Toro Diamond.
