Point Loma Proves Too Much for Toros in Non-Conference Action

CARSON -- Visiting Point Loma University showed why it's the No. 9 ranked team in the nation, taking a 16-6 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on a warm Saturday afternoon on Toro Field.

The Sea Lions remain perfect at 10-0, while the Toros fall to 3-5 on the young season.

PLNU scored early and often, taking a 14-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning.  That's when the Toro bats awoke, scoring six runs to cut into their deficit.  Kevin Moscoso and Matt Beserra each poked RBI singles before Anthony Accordino belted a 2-1 offering with two runners on to account for the big blow in the frame.

That was the extent of CSUDH's offense, however, as the visitors tacked on a pair of runs in the 8th to account for the final score.

Nate Ortiz took the loss after lasting just 2.1 innings, with four Toros total seeing action on the bump.

CSUDH completes its non-conference schedule with a twinbill tomorrow morning against Marymount University, with first pitch of game one set for 11 am on Toro Field.
