CARSON -- After dropping a pair of games against No. 9 Point Loma to kick off the weekend, the Toros scored early and often in taking a pair of lopsided wins over Marymount California to conclude its non-conference schedule.
Overall, CSUDH outscored its opponent 29-2, outhit them 31-11 and committed just one error compared to five for the Mariners to improve to 5-5 on the year.
The Toros scored five times in the 1st inning on three RBI doubles and two RBI singles. After MCU scored a single run in the 2nd, CSUDH scored thrice in the 2nd, twice in both the 3rd and 4th, and five times in the 8th to close the blowout win.
Anthony Accordino went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, while
Scott Ogrin added a 3-for-3, 3 runs and 2 RBI performance to lead the cardinal and gold offense.
Humberto Chiquito tossed 6.0 innings for the win, fanning five against just one walk, while scattering five hits.
The hosts again opened the scoring in the nightcap,with an
Alberto Luevano triple bringing home a pair of runs. MCU cut its deficit in half with a run in the 4th before the Toros erupted for three in the 4th, five in the 5th and two in the 6th en route to the 12-1 win.
Pierson Loska belted three hits while
Eric Smelko and Ogrin each knocked two hits with three RBI.
Damon Treadwell tossed 5.0 innings in the win, fanning four with no walks.
CSUDH begins CCAA play this weekend as San Francisco State pays Carson a visit, with Friday's game one set for a 2 pm first pitch.
