TUCSON, Ariz. -- The junior combination of pitcher
Alyssa Olague and outfielder
Katelyn Sturm was more than enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team powered past Central Washington, 6-0, on the third and final day of the MSUB-hosted Desert Stinger Tournament.
CSUDH finished the tournament with a 4-1 mark, and improved to 9-2 overall.
Olague was brilliant in the circle, allowing a 2nd-inning single over the first six frames. She fanned six Wildcats in the process including two looking, retiring the side in order in five of her seven frames. In addition, she did not issue a single walk.
After the Wildcats gifted the Toros with an unearned run in the 2nd, the contest turned into a pitcher's duel until the 6th.
That's when Strum came up with two runners on, and belted an 0-1 offering deep over the center field fence to put the Toros up 4-0.
Raquel Jaime added an insurance run with an RBI single in the 7th, with
Kianna Abellera scoring one batter later on another CWU miscue.
Claudia Valencia, Abellera, Jaime and
Amara Labonog each added two hits in the win
The Toros open their 2022 homestand next weekend, hosting Cal Poly Humboldt for a four-game set. First pitch of game one on Friday begins at 12 noon on Toro Diamond.
