No. 21 Toros Stay Perfect to Close Calendar Year After 75-50 Win Over Pioneers

CARSON -- Sophomore Asia Jordan led all scorers with 16 points while pulling down a game-high nine boards as No. 21-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills led wire-to-wire en route to a workmanlike 75-50 win over visiting Cal State East Bay on a cool Friday afternoon in the Torodome.

CSUDH, which cracked the WBCA's top 25 for the first time in program history last week, continues to add onto its historic start by improving to 11-0 overall, and 5-0 in the CCAA.

After Auren Isaacson opened the scoring with a deep triple nearly two minutes into the contest, the Toros increased their edge to 10-2 after another trey, this time by Deejanae Poland, as the hosts held the Pios to just nine points in the first quarter.

The Toros pushed their lead to 14 at 27-13 in the second quarter after an old-fashioned 3-point play by Kelsey Bell, heading into the locker room up 36-21 after an Isaacson layup to close the half.

It was more of the same to start the third quarter as a Nala Williams 3-pointer brought the host's lead to 19 at 47-28, before four-consecutive points by Williams pushed CSUDH's lead to 56-30 with 4:10 left in the frame.

The Pios brought their deficit into the teens, but a Jordan layup in the paint at the 6:01 mark saw CSUDH's lead again reach the 20s at 69-48, with an Allyah Cartajena free throw three minutes later giving the hosts their biggest advantage at 74-48 with 3:14 left in regulation in the eventual 25-point win.

The Toros dominated their offensive glass, pulling down 27 en route to 20 second-chance points, with an 18 to 7 advantage in steals accounting for 15 points off turnovers and 14 less turnovers than East Bay.

The two teams will battle again on New Year's Day in Hayward, with tipoff set for 1 pm.
