CARSON -- Junior
Cameron Barry led all scorers with 20 points as the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team led wire-to-wire en route to an 80-74Â win over visiting Seattle Pacific in a rare Monday afternoon matinee matchup.
The Toros even their overall record at 5-5 after winning their second-straight game.
CSUDH controlled the game from the opening tip, turning a 3-3 tie into an 8-3 advantage, the last two points courtesy of a
Damien Miller fastbreak bucket.Â
Andre Ball gave CSUDH its first double-figure lead at 15-5 after draining a triple, only to have the Falcons reply with a 6-0 run to get to within 15-11 at the 11:46 mark.
The Toros, however, went on a run of their own, turning that 4-point lead in to 11 after
Eric Watson connected for a score to make it 28-17 four minutes later. That kick started the Toro offense as the hosts used a 15-4 run to take a 22-point lead, with
Jordan Hilstock proving the 3-point bucket entering the locker room with a 45-24 lead.
It was more of the same after the break as CSUDHÂ held a 50-31 lead with nearly four minutes elapsed in the second half.
Bolstered by a 17-9 run over the next seven minutes, SPU clawed to within 11 at 59-48 before an
Isaiah Morris triple, a free throw by Hilstock, and a
Hunter Seymour bucket pushed the Toro lead back to 17 with 7:41 left in regulation.
The Falcons, however, continued to press and foul, getting to within seven at 78-71 with 14 ticks on the clock. But Morris, who was perfect both from the field and the charity stripe, drained his only two free throw attempts to put the Toros up 80-71 one second later in the eventual six-point win.
The Toros shot a solid 42.9% from the floor but were overshadowed by SPU hitting 47.5% of its shots. Â
CSUDH won the game at the charity stripe, sinking 13 more free throws in 16 more opportunities at the foul line.
Head coach
