Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Historic Start Continues as Toros Reach Century Mark in Rout Over Western Oregon

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team reached the century mark in a 100-58 rout over visiting Western Oregon, and extended its program-best start to a season by improving to a perfect 9-0 on the year.

This is the third time in the past three seasons (not including the 2020-21 season that was canceled due to COVID) CSUDH has scored at least 100 points in a game, with today's effort being led by five Toros who scored in double figures, and two others who scored nine.

The game was decided in the first 10 minutes of play as the Toros raced to a 27-9 lead after the first quarter, nailing 11-of-21 shots that included three from long range.

Despite the Wolves being outscored by just one point in the second quarter, CSUDH regained its edge after the break and outscored WOU 31-18, putting the game away for good.  The Toros ended the game on a solid note, besting WOU by 10 in the final period to account for the final tally.

Dawnyel Lair led all scorers with 18 points on a near-perfect 9-of-11 shooting from the field, joining four other players with a game-high six boards in the process.

CSUDH enjoyed a well-balanced attack as Kelsey Bell (12 points), Auren Isaacson (11 points), Nala Williams (10 points) and Asia Jordan (10 points) enjoyed double-digit scoring efforts, while Deejanae Poland and Danyell Booker just missed hitting that mark, scoring nine points each.

The Toros dominated the boards by a 48 to 25 count, also besting the Wolves with eight more assists, four more steals, and two less turnovers.

CSUDH concludes its non-conference schedule on Sunday as No. 14 Alaska Anchorage pays Carson a visit sporting an 8-1 overall record in what could be an NCAA postseason preview.
