Volleyball Swept in Turlock

TURLOCK – Playing Stanislaus State on a volleyball court for the third time in the regular season and losing the first two meetings, Cal State Dominguez Hills thought 'third time's a charm.' It didn't seem to be that way in Fitzpatrick Arena Friday as the Warriors swept the Toros 18-25, 12-25, 18-25.

The Toros fall to 5-19 overall, 3-14 in the CCAA while the Warriors, a surprise team in the conference, improve to 19-8 overall and 10-7 in league play to stay in the hunt for the sixth and final spot to the upcoming CCAA Tournament.

Dominguez Hills ended the evening hitting .167, committing a season-low 11 errors on the attack. The first set was the Toros' best performance on the front, hitting 56 percent with a dozen kills and only four errors. Ava Hurry finished with eight kills to lead the Toros, Camila Sanchez-Tellez had seven.

Angelina Cabal had 13 of the Toros' 26 assists while Angelina Robles had 26 of 61 team total digs.

After falling behind early in the first two games, the Toros got their only leads in the match at the start of the third set. Cassie Taylor got service ace to take a 4-3 lead and then Darien Mann recorded a kill that put the Toros back up front 5-4. Dominguez Hills' largest lead was 8-6. Stanislaus would go on a 7-2 rally to take a 13-10 lead and never looked back.

The Toros conclude the 2022 season Saturday at Chico State. First serve is at 5 p.m.
