Toros Close Season with Five-Set Win at Chico State

CHICO – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team closed out the 2022 season on a positive note, a five-set win (25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-6) at Chico State to sweep the two-match series for the first time in 21 years.
 
The Toros finish the season 6-19 overall and 4-14 in the CCAA, placing them 10th in the final standings. The 'Cats, meanwhile, drop to 3-22 overall and 1-17 in the conference.
 
Dominguez Hills ended the night hitting 20.8 percent on the attack, recording 60 kills along the way. Cassie Taylor led the way with 14 kills. While Shelby Saporetti had 13 kills, Ava Hurry had the same amount along with 14 digs for a double-double. Angelina Cabal, playing her final match in her collegiate career, ended on a high note with a 29 assist, 13 dig double-double night.
 
Libero Angelina Robles had 31 digs to lead the Toros in that category.
 
Trailing the first set by one, the Toros flipped the score in a big way, using a 10-2 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Wildcats couldn't get any closer than three points the rest of the way.
 
Chico used a 9-1 momentum to take complete control of the second set and even the match at one apiece.
 
The 'Cats led a majority of the third set. Down 21-18, the Toros got on 7-2 momentum the rest of the way to take the game win and a 2-1 set lead.
 
Dominguez Hills quickly fell into an 8-2 hole to start the fourth game and couldn't quite recover from it. The Toros did have a four-point rally at one point to get to within two. It would stay close until the Wildcats scored five of the final six points to force a deciding set.
 
The Toros never trailed the fifth game, jumping to a 2-0 lead right from the first serve to a 15-6 final result.
