CARSON –
Jordan Hilstock scored 14 points,
Jeremy Dent-Smith had 11 but the Cal State Dominguez Hills couldn't completely erase a double-digit deficit as the Toros dropped a 64-56 home-opener to Biola Tuesday night.
The Toros fall to 2-2 heading into the Thanksgiving weekend. Following the feast, they will begin preparation for the CCAA schedule kickoff against Cal State East Bay Saturday at the Torodome.
Much like the weather in Carson, it was a chilly evening on Dave Yanai Court, both in the shooting and in the glass. The Toros made 38.6 percent of their shots, including going 6-for-20 from 3-point range, while grabbing only 24 rebounds. Biola (3-2), meanwhile, hit 44.7 percent from the field but mainly captured 17-of-26 opportunities on the free throw line. The Eagles dominated the boards with 45.
Alex Wright led the Eagles with 21 points but Maximo Milovich finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Although the Eagles connected a 3-pointer by Daniel Esparza to take a 6-4 lead with 16:46 to go in the first half, the Toros kept the deficit close for the remainder of the period, with Biola taking a 26-19 lead into halftime.
The Toros trailed by as many as 14 points with 5:36 to go in the game. They did get on a run that saw the deficit cut to within five with 1:48 left, but a pair of free throws from Wright and a clutch 3-pointer by Esparza secured the win for Biola.
