SAN DIEGO – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team put together a runaway performance in the second quarter to post an 87-65 victory over Point Loma Saturday afternoon.
The Toros, at 3-0, are off to their best start in program history since the 2007-08 season.
Dominguez Hills had a 17-15 lead after one period of play, but the Toros put together a scoring barrage in the second quarter, outscoring the Sea Lions 31-17. CSUDH went 11-for-16 from the field during that quarter while PLNU went 5-for-17.
CSUDH went into the locker room leading 48-32.
The Toros, who entered the day averaging 43.4 percent from the field, shot 50.8 percent against the Sea Lions for a season high, highlighted with 31 baskets made.
Asia Jordan continues to reaching near her season average, scoring 16 points on the day along with six of the Toros' 40 rebounds.
Dawnyel Lair did score above her average, dropping 15 points.
For Point Loma, it was led by Ellie Turk, who went 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-9 on the free throw line for 22 points. The Sea Lions hit 36.1 percent of their shots.
Dominguez Hills opens its home schedule welcoming Lincoln to the Torodome on Tuesday evening. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
