SAN FRANCISCO – The No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team's defense continues to be formidable as the Toros cruised to a 4-0 road win over San Francisco State Sunday.
The Toros, though winners of five straight, continue their unbeaten run, improving to 11-0-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the CCAA. With 16 points in conference play, Dominguez Hills now built a four-point lead in the CCAA table after Cal Poly Pomona was stunned to a 2-2 tie with Cal State San Marcos at home.
Without the services of
Michael McKibbin, who had to serve a red card suspension after receiving two yellows against Sonoma State on Thursday, the Toros picked up their second-leading scorer.
Sulaiman Bah, who notched two assists on Thursday, picked up another one against the Gators as well as a goal in the second half to complete a five-point weekend.
Danny Hernandez picked up two goals and
Nick Walker collected one off the bench.
Frank Aguilar played the full 90 minutes between the posts and had to make one save in front of a defense that picked up its eighth shutout on the year.
The Toros collected their first goal at 14:45. Bah took the ball to the end line before crossing it to an open Hernandez inside the box for the finishing two-touch shot.
It didn't take to long for Hernandez to collect his second goal, and he did in style. Four minutes into the second half,
Chunghwan Lee dribbled to the endline and cross it in for Hernandez to beautifully head it into the goal.
The match was put out of reach one minute later.
Alfredo Garcia fed a forward pass to Bah, who dribbled to play a 2-on-1 matchup with the Gator keeper and defender. The sophomore easily beat them both for his 12
th goal on the season, keeping pace for the third-best in NCAA Division II.
The fourth goal came in the 82
nd minute. The Toros were in complete momentum moving the ball across the pitch. Garcia collected a pass inside the box and completed a one-touch cross to Walker for the easy finisher.
The Toros dominated the shots column 15-3 overall, 12-1 on goal.
Dominguez Hills returns to wrap up the home schedule this coming weekend, starting Friday with Stanislaus State. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
