CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team has not seen much success in the 2022 season. But one thing for certain, the Toros ended a three-year losing skid at the Dignity Health Sports Park after playing to a scoreless draw with Sonoma State Thursday evening.
The Toros continue to search for win No. 1 as they remain at 0-9-3 overall but did pick up a conference point at now 0-4-1.
Thursday's draw also served as a confidence booster with the Toros as they tied with a Seawolf team that entered the day tied for first place in the CCAA standings.
Alyssa Newsom had to make four saves to earn the Toros' first shutout of the season.
While both sides left the home of the LA Galaxy without a goal, the Seawolves did outshoot the Toros 12-7 overall. Both sides were even in the on-target column.
Both teams came up with close opportunities late in the match.

th minute,
Julia Burdick fed a pass to
Sabrina Barata on the right side. Barata dribbled and fired a shot from the top right corner and was caught by Sonoma keeper Kennedy Williams.
Ten minutes later, Sonoma's Lexi Zandonella-Arasa broke away into the box with the ball, fired a shot deflected off Newsom for the save.
With three minutes remaining,
Lexi Howard received a pass at the top of the box with her back against the goal, she tried to get a shot from but was arched right to Williams.
The draw ends a three-year losing skid for CSUDH women's soccer at Dignity Health Sports Park. The Toros haven't won at the main stadium in 10 seasons, a 2-8-2 record.
The Toros will make a brief trip to the City by the Bay Sunday to play San Francisco State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
