RIVERSIDE –
David Cheatom scored 19 points,
Cameron Barry had a dozen,
Andre Ball had 11,
Jeremy Dent-Smith and
Eric Watson both had 10 as the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team got an exhibition workout with the Big West's UC Riverside Friday evening.
The Toros lost to the Highlanders 94-79 in SRC Arena.
Despite the score, the Toros did shoot 50.8 percent from the field, outshooting a Highlander team that hit 48.6 percent of their shots. Three-pointers proved to be the big difference in the meaningless game. UC Riverside went 13-for-30 while the Toros went 8-for-14 from beyond the arc.
Both sides came up even in rebounding with 37.
The Highlanders led from start to finish. The Toros kept it within under five points until the Highlanders developed a run in which they went into intermission leading 44-31.
Dominguez Hills gets one last tune-up November 5, hosting NCAA Division III Occidental in another exhibition game. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
The Toros officially open the season November 11 at Simon Fraser.
