CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team saw a goal missed by inches in the second half, but it wouldn't had been enough as Cal State San Bernardino won the match 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Toro Stadium.
In the 54
th minute,
Sarah Martinez took a shot from the right side that hit the left post and ricocheted along the goal line and to the right post. It was a difficult call by the referee to determine if the ball had crossed the plane or not.
The Toros fall to 0-9-2 overall while dropping to 0-4-0 in the CCAA standings. The Yotes, on the other than, improve to 6-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 in conference play.
The best shot for the Toros in the first half was also the furthest. In the 20
th minute, Regina Molina-Sanchez was about five yards above the goal box when she fired a shot that was aimed to the top of the goal. Yotes keeper Carly Luna leaped high to prevent the ball from crossing the goal line.
The Yotes got on the board in the 22
nd minute. Nathaly Losada Lucumi broke away to force a one-on-one battle with Toros keeper
Alyssa Newsom. Newsom charged the attack but was beaten and Losada Newsom slot the ball in for the goal.
Five minutes later, Kaylen Gonzalez fed a perfect through-ball to the goal box where a sprinting Emma Fausto took a one-touch shot into the goal.
San Bernardino outshot Dominguez Hills 15-6 overall, 11-2 on goal.
Dominguez Hills will make its annual visit to the Dignity Health Sports Park's main stadium Thursday against Sonoma State. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
