Angelina Cabal recorded 21 assists and 11 digs for her second straight double-double, her sixth of the season, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team dropped a three set decision (23-25, 22-25, 19-25) at San Francisco State Saturday evening.
The Toros fall to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in the CCAA.
Ava Hurry led the attacking effort with seven of the Toros' 25 kills. Dominguez Hills as a team hit .099 on the night while the Gators averaged .164. SF State (8-7, 4-4 CCAA) saw two of its players combine for 24 of 42 total kills.
The Toros started out having won five of the first six serves. They maintained the lead up until the Gators tied the opening game at 17 using an 8-3 run. After both sides collected a point, San Francisco went on another 8-3 momentum to reach the 25
th point.
Set two started out with the Gators jumping ahead. The Toros did catch up to them and tied the game at seven apiece. The two sides would keep on each other's tail up until 20
th point. San Francisco would score five of the remaining six serves to take the set and a 2-0 match lead.
Although the Toros got the first point off an attack error to start the third set, the Gators scored three of the next four points to take the lead and never look back. The Toros kept the score close until the Gators scored seven straight points to put the game and match out of reach.
Dominguez Hills returns to Southern California begin a home-and-home series with crosstown rivals Cal State LA starting with the Golden Eagles' University Gymnasium Friday followed by the Torodome Saturday. Both are 5 p.m. start times.
