SAN BERNARDINO –
Asia Jordan scored 20 points including a critical put-back layup with 12.3 seconds left in the game that allowed the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team to hold on to a 65-62 victory over Cal State San Bernardino for their season-best fifth straight win Saturday afternoon.
It is the first time since the 2018-19 season that the Toros have won five straight games. They have also now won eight of their last nine contests. The win moves the Toros into fourth place in the CCAA standings going into the final month of the regular season.
The Toros jumped right out of the gate by outscoring the Yotes 26-14 in the opening quarter. Dominguez Hills' domination in the period was highlighted by going 10-for-15 from the field and hitting four of its seven 3-pointers.
After a quiet second quarter, which the Toros took a 30-22 lead into the locker room, the Yotes (6-12, 3-9 CCAA) slowly began a rally, which they outscored the Toros 17-15 in the third quarter. San Bernardino got to within one point with 41 seconds left. Following a CSUDH timeout, the Toros tried to get the insurance bucket with
Auren Isaacson making a layup. The shot hit the rim but was recovered by Jordan who followed through with the critical bucket to give the Toros the 65-62 lead.
The Yotes tried to get the game-tying 3-point shot but was well defended by the Toros until the final buzzer.
Isaacson ended the day leading both sides with 22 points, including five 3-pointers. Jordan also had 12 of the Toros' 37 rebounds to complete her third straight double-double and seventh on the year.
The Toros return home to play Cal State LA Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Fans will be welcomed back to the Torodome on the City of Carson Night. Admission will be FREE, however, all spectators must adhere to the updated
