Warriors Best Toros in Three Sets to Open the Torodome for the First Time Since 2019

CARSON – It had been 663 days since the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team played a match on Dave Yanai Court. On Thursday evening, the Toros reopened the Torodome for the first time since then but suffered a three-set (20-25, 14-25, 25-27) non-CCAA defeat to Stanislaus State to wrap up day one of the SoCal Freeway Challenge hosted by the Toros, Azusa Pacific, Cal Poly Pomona and Concordia.

Jena Sandall had seven hills and six digs to lead the effort on the floor. Coco Ikpe earned six rally points on the attach. Bailey Fuches and Cecilia White combined for 25 assists.

After dropping the first sets by less than six, the Toros went neck-and-neck with the Warriors late into the third round. The Warriors tied the game at 12 points apiece and the two sides would go be even on six different occasions. A kill by Nicole Peery followed by an attack error by Stan State gave the Toros match point only the Warriors score three points, two unanswered, to win the match.

Day two of the SoCal Freeway Challenge is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. with Point Loma taking on Westminster. The Toros will host Westminster at 3 p.m.
