CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team came up with two set wins but ran out of gas in the deciding round in a 22-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14, 5-15 defeat to Westminster of Utah in day two of the SoCal Freeway Challenge Friday afternoon.
Dominguez Hills made improvements in the stat column, hitting a season-high .201 while making 76 digs. Three Toros hit double-double marks.
Nicole Peery had 17 kills and 11 digs,
Jenna Sandall had 13 kills and 21 digs,
Bailey Fuches set season-highs 36 assists and 14 digs.
Gabbie Silva, donning the libero jersey, made 17 digs.
After dropping the first set, the Toros came back and took the second round 25-16.
The Griffins responded by taking the third set by five points and the Toros forced the deciding set on a block assist by
Renee Wheeler and Fuches.
The Toros wrap up both the SoCal Freeway Classic and non-conference play on the campus of Azusa Pacific on Saturday, facing the PacWest's Fresno Pacific at 3 p.m.
