Volleyball Bitten by Gators

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team left Southern California for the first time this season, but the Toros dropped a three-set decision (20-25, 17-25, 18-25) to a redhot San Francisco State at the Swamp Friday evening.

Angie Cabal, playing in her third straight match of 2021, racked up another double-double of a dozen assists and 11 digs. Bailey Fuches saw her double-double streak snap at five as the freshman was only to tally eight kills, seven assists and three digs. The eight-kill mark was also matched by Nicole Peery for most on the team.

The Toros as a whole hit .138 on the evening.

SF State (9-1, 2-1 CCAA), which saw its eight-match win streak to start the season snapped by Cal State San Marcos last week, hit .228 on the night with Izzy Isaak and Alhana Velasquez combined for 25 kills.

As the Toros put the Gators behind them, they found out earlier today that Cal State Monterey Bay has entered the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) COVID-19 protocol and must cancel Saturday's match at the Kelp Bed.

Per conference regulations, the match will be considered a win towards Dominguez Hills' conference record and a loss for the Otters. Per NCAA guidelines, the match is now considered a no-contest and will not reflect or impact both teams' OVERALL record.

The Toros remain 0-9 overall but will take a 1-3 record back home to host the defending NCAA Division II champions Cal State San Bernardino Friday at 7 p.m.
