Becker Completes 2021-22 Roster with Seven Newcomers

CARSON - Cal State Dominguez Hills head men's basketball coach Steve Becker will be welcoming seven new additions to his roster when the Toros return to play this fall. Donning the Cardinal and Gold in 2021-22 are Andre Ball, a 6-7 guard transferring from Pepperdine University; Jace Bass, a 6-3 guard coming from Louisiana Tech; Hunter Seymour, a 6-8 forward transfer from the University of Portland; D'Mauria Jones, a 6-3 guard from Oral Roberts University; Brandon Richard, a 6-7 forward/center from Windward High School; Sam Sparks, a 6-2 freshman transfer from Tarleton State, and Zion Sutton, a 6-0 freshman guard from Westchester High School.

"I'm really excited about the talent and experience level of this year's recruiting class. This has been a long off-season and we are beyond excited to get to work," Becker said in a statement. "We believe our experienced group of returners combined with this talented recruiting class, will allow us to compete atop the CCAA. This may be the most talented group we've had yet at CSUDH. We will rely heavily on our returners Colten Kresl, Alex Garcia, Jordan Hilstock, DJ Guest and Isaiah Morris, while we also expect immediate impact to be felt from Chris Seeley and David Cheatom. This is an exciting time for Toros basketball!"
Andre BallAndre Ball
Position: Guard
Height: 6-7
Previous School: Pepperdine
• Played two seasons with the Waves, having appeared in 42 games while averaging 3.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 13.5 minutes. Scored a career-high 12 points against California last season
• Averaged 3.3 points and 1.7 rebounds during a solid freshman campaign playing in 30 games with one of them a starting role.

Becker on Ball: "Dre is an electrifying athlete who has played at a high level for a legend in Coach Lorenzo Romar at Pepperdine. Dre is really versatile. He has the quickness and footspeed to guard smaller, quicker guards and has the size and length to guard bigger, rangier forwards in the CCAA. On the offensive end, he has a great motor and gets a lot done both with the ball in his hands, as well as off ball via cuts and offensive rebounding. He comes from a great family, is a good student, and has three years of eligibility. We are eager to get to work with him."

Jace BassJace Bass
Position: Guard
Height: 6-3
Previous Schools: Louisiana Tech
• Averaged 3.7 points in nine minutes per game for the 24-8 Bulldogs. Set season-best marks of 21 minutes, 16 points and four rebounds against Jackson State.
• Before heading to Ruston, Bass played at nearby Long Beach City College where he led the State in scoring with an average of 30.7 points. He also rounded out 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range. Highlighted the Vikings by scoring 30 or more points in 10 of his 16 appearances as a sophomore.

Becker on Bass: "Jace is a local standout from Carson who starred at Long Beach City College prior to transferring to the Conference USA's Louisiana Tech. Jace is an elite scorer, who is super athletic and explosive off the bounce. It's really hard to average 30 points per game and win games while putting up such prolific numbers. He is a good decision maker with the ball in his hands, and someone we have high hopes for. We are glad he chose to finish his career as a Toro, in his hometown."
D'Mauria JonesD'Mauria Jones
Position: Guard
Height: 6-3
Previous School: Oral Roberts
• Jones comes to Carson having graduated from Oral Roberts and is now enrolled into graduate school at Dominguez Hills. He was part of the Golden Eagles team that reached the Sweet Sixteen in last year's NCAA March Madness.
• In 40 games played with the Golden Eagles, Jones scored 102 total points and grabbed 73 rebounds. One of his biggest highlights of his career was when he went to the glass 21 times in a game for seventh best in the ORU program. He also became the first ORU player with 20 or more rebounds in a single game in more than four years.
• Prior to playing in a Golden Eagles uniform, Jones played two seasons at Antelope Valley College, averaging 15 points and nearly four rebounds per game.

Becker on Jones: "D'Mauria is a tough minded, strong and physical wing who we expect to make an immediate impact in a variety of ways. While at Oral Roberts he reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, and with that he brings a great deal of experience to our program. D'Mauria is really explosive off the bounce and gets in the paint at will. He also really rebounds it for his position, and flat out plays really hard. D'Mauria is a winner, a competitor and a leader. He wants to coach after his playing days, and we're excited to get to work with him."
Brandon RichardBrandon Richard
Position: Forward/Center
Height: 6-7
Previous School: Windward HS

Becker on Richard: "Brandon comes to us from Windward School, having played for a good friend of mine in Colin Pfaff. He is a winner and has played with high level players his entire career. He is willing to do what it takes to win, while also thriving academically. We were able to identify Brandon at our elite camp years back and have followed his career ever since."
Hunter SeymourHunter Seymour
Position: Guard/Forward
Height: 6-8
Previous School: Portland
• Attended on a scholarship and played in nine games
• Prior to Portland, Seymour played at Cabrillo College in the Santa Cruz area. He helped the Seahawks claim a share of the 2020 Coast Conference South Division title after averaging 11 points, 10 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game, which was second best in the state. His rebounds also ranked sixth-best statewide.

Becker on Seymour: "Hunter is going to be able to immediately impact our depth inside. He was injured for most of his time at Portland, but when he was healthy at Cabrillo, he was one of the best shot blockers & rebounders in the State, even averaging double-doubles. He is really athletic and has exceptional timing in blocking shots above the rim, as well as having a knack for rebounding on both ends. In addition to his rebounding and shot blocking instincts, he is also extremely versatile and can guard multiple positions at 6-8. We are looking forward to helping him develop both as a student as well as his skill set as a basketball player."
Sam SparksSam Sparks
Position: Guard
Height: 6-2
Previous Schools: Tarleton State

Becker on Sparks: "Sam can really shoot the basketball and is a very good overall athlete, having four state championships under his belt in track & field. He is an exceptional student, and comes to Carson from Santa Fe New Mexico, where he and Alex Garcia grew up together. Alex has raved about Sam being an OKG (Our Kind of Guy) and Sam has lived up to that in the recruiting process. We are excited to welcome Sam to our basketball family and get to work with him."
Zion SuttonZion Sutton
Position: Guard
Height: 6-0
Previous School: Westchester HS

Becker on Sutton: "Zion is a competitor. He takes pride in guarding the opposing teams best guard the length of the court and does not back down from competition. He comes to us from one of the most storied programs in high school basketball, Westchester High School, having played for the legendary Ed Azzam and earning league MVP as a senior. He also played for one of the top AAU programs in the country in Compton Magic. We are excited to see Zion continue to grow and develop in our program."
