Toros Win Stampede Race with Broncos After Two Extra Periods

CARSON – It took two overtime periods for the first time in eight years, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team prevailed in a tight CCAA battle with Cal Poly Pomona as the Toros bested the Broncos 78-73 for their third straight win Saturday before they go to holiday break.

It was only the fifth time in the program's 30-year history in the NCAA/CCAA era that Dominguez Hills (4-7, 2-3 CCAA) had to play two overtime periods, improving to 3-2 all-time.

Asia Jordan continues her streak in both scoring and rebounding, dropping in 14 points while going to the glass 17 times for a personal best. Kelsey Bell also had a career day as the junior scored 16 points to match her personal best. She also grabbed nine boards for a season high.

Despite playing an extra 10 minutes, the two sides only saw tie scores eight times.

Both benches stepped up on the floor. Dominguez Hills' reserves scored 33 points while Cal Poly Pomona's (2-7, 1-4 CCAA) subs scored 35.

Dominguez Hills had to play catch-up after trailing by a dozen (33-21) with 1:12 left in the first half. They did get back-to-back buckets from Destiny McAllister and Auren Isaacson before intermission. A 9-2 run midway through the third quarter did help the Toros tie the game at 41.

Neither side would have a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Both sides had chances to put the game away. At the end of regulation, McAllister attempted a game-winning jumper but missed, while on the other side, Cal Poly Pomona's Rebecca Islas missed both free throws with .1 second left in the first overtime period.

Although the Broncos got the first bucket, a 3-pointer, to start the second overtime period, the Toros had another nine-point run turned out to be the difference in the game.

Dominguez Hills will get to enjoy brief holiday break before opening the new year taking on Cal State East Bay. Tipoff on January 1 is at 1 p.m. The Pioneers are coming off a 57-37 win over Cal State San Bernardino to keep their conference record perfect.

Spectator Reminder
Per ordinance by the State of California, fans attending a Cal State Dominguez Hills game are required to wear a face covering at all times in the Torodome except when eating or drinking. Fans who plan on attending a Cal State Dominguez Hills home contest are to to abide by the Toros Athletics Spectator Policy.

CCAA Network Reminder
With our return to competition this season, we offered free access to all Cal State Dominguez Hills contests on the CCAA Network for the first semester. This was to assist with the adjustment and alleviate some of the initial financial burden for our fans and families. We would love to have you attend our events in-person, however, we know that is not always possible.

Beginning January 1, the CCAA Network will be implementing a subscription fee of $9.95 per month, giving viewers all access to CSUDH, its fellow 11 CCAA members and CCAA Championships. For a little more than the cost of a single-game ticket, fans will have access to all home and away events for the Toros.

For the Toros, the subscription begins New Year's Day when the men's and women's basketball games will host Cal State East Bay.
