CARSON -- Visiting Cal State Monterey Bay made the most of its opportunities on a warm Thursday morning in Toro Stadium, connecting on 33.3 of its shot attempts en route to a 3-0 win over Cal State Dominguez in the final game of the regular season, after the Toros honored four seniors playing in their final regular season home game.
With the loss, the Toros fall to 9-5-1 overall and 7-4 in the CCAA, also dropping to the No. 4 seed in the CCAA tournament. By virtue of the No. 4 seed, the Toros will host No. 5 Sonoma State this Sunday at 12 noon, with the winner advancing to the CCAA semifinal.
The hosts outshot the visitors 20-9 overall, including 8-5 in the first period. However, it was CSUMB that made its attempts count as a pair of goals in a span of 2:24 gave the Otters a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
CSUMB added another goal in the 70th minute as Julian Contreras connected for his second of the game to put the match away.
Prior to the contest, CSUDH honored three seniors in
Alberto Carrillo,
Josue Cartagena,
Steven Espinoza, and
Bryan Rodriguez.
The Toros and Seawolves meet for the second time this season, following an October 14 match in Rohert Park that saw CSUDH take a 2-1 win as James' Vlcek's goal in the 24th minute proved to be the difference.
