Cold Fourth Quarter Dooms Toros in 76-69 Setback to Point Loma

CARSON -- Heading in the final 12 minutes holding onto a slim 58-56 lead, Cal State Dominguez Hills scored just 11 points in the 4th quarter before dropping a 76-69 decision to visiting Point Loma University tonight in the Torodome.

Asia Jordan led four Toros in double-figure scoring with 14 points, also adding a game-high eight boards in the loss.

The teams split the game's first 20 points before PLNU went on a 6-0 run to take a 16-10 lead with 2:46 left in the quarter.  After a pair of Hosanna Walker free throws broke the scoreless spell, the Sea Lions scored five-straight before ending the quarter with a 21-14 lead.

An Auren Isaacson triple to begin the second quarter spurred a 7-0 run to tie the game, with the Toros taking a 29-23 lead on a pair of Isaacson free throws.  PLNU, however, went on a 15-8 run to close the half, taking a 38-37 lead into the break.

PLNU extended its lead to 43-37 to open the 3rd quarter, before Destiny McAllister tied the game at 46-46 after converting one of her two freebies.  The teams tied five more times in the period before Jordan's two free throws with :04 left gave the hosts the two-point lead.

The Sea Lions came out hot in the 4th quarter by taking an 68-60 lead, before a Deejanae Poland free throw and triple by Isaacson cut CSUDH's deficit in half with 3:24 left in regulation.  That gap shrunk to just two at 71-69 after Kelsey Bell was fouled on a 3-point attempt, and drained all three of her ensuing free throws.

The Toros missed on an in-bounds steal attempt and were forced to foul, and PLNU closed the game by making 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to take the win.

CSUDH shot just 33.8% from the floor, and were edged on the boards 34-31.

Next up for the Toros (0-4) is a Monday match-up with Lincoln University (Oakland), set for a 5:30 pm tip.
