LOS ANGELES -- Freshman
Asia Jordan poured in a game-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field in Cal State Dominguez Hills' season-opener against Concordia University (Irvine), but the Toros couldn't fend off a late Eagle rally en route to a 69-66 setback to kick off the 2021-22 season.
The Toros jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter, taking a 24-13 cushion behind making 62.5% of their shots that included connecting on half of their 3-point attempts.
CSUDH stretch its lead to 12 at 42-30 heading into the break, only to go cold after intermission.
Concordia would outscore the Cardinal and Gold 17-9 in the third to trim its deficit to just two at 49-47, and completed the comeback by outscoring the Toros by seven in the final quarter to take the 3-point win.
Deejanae Poland (pictured) added 18 and
Auren Isaacson 12 to round out the double-figure scorers for CSUDH, but CUI pulled down eight more boards and committed five less turnovers in its win.
The Toros will continue action tomorrow at 2 pm, taking on Biola University.
