CARSON – The 13
th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team thought playing inside the home of the LA Galaxy would turn things around following Friday's loss to No. 8 Cal State LA.
But the Toros were wrong.
Much like Friday, Cal Poly Pomona scored three times in the second half to beat the Toros at the Dignity Health Sports Park Sunday evening.
The Toros' winless weekend saw their record dip to 8-3-1 overall and more importantly to 6-2-0 in CCAA play. Stuck at 18 points, the Toros drop to third place in the CCAA table while the Broncos (9-2-3, 6-0-2 CCAA), winners of six straight, leap over to second place with 20 points. The Broncos and Cal State LA, which tied Cal State Monterey Bay earlier in the day, clinched a spot to the CCAA Tournament. The Toros can clinch with a win in any of their final three contests starting Friday at Cal State San Bernardino or a Monterey Bay tie or loss.
While the score stung Dominguez Hills again, they did outshoot the Cal Poly Pomona 14-12, however the Broncos dominated the on-goal target 7-2.
The Broncos broke the ice in the 42
nd minute and scored two more in the 80
th and 83
rd minutes.
With the loss, the Toros have now lost two straight in the main stadium after going perfect in their first 10 games.
