CARSON -- Building on momentum from last night's thrilling 5-set win, Cal State Dominguez Hills took set two from visiting Cal State San Marcos after the Cougars took the opener this afternoon in the Torodome, only to see the visiting Cougars take the final two sets en route to a 3-1 win.
As a team, the Toros hit just .130 compared to .203 for San Marcos in splitting the weekend homestand.
After CSUSM took set one, the Toros raced to a 3-0 lead in the second, pushing it to 17-8 behind
Gabbie Silva's strong serve, which accounted for nine-straight points including consecutive aces during the run.
That was more than enough as CSUDH closed out the set on two attack errors bookending a service error by CSUSM.
The two teams played tight in set three as they tied nine times, the last coming on 17-17 courtesy of a
Darien Mann blast, but the Cougars ended the set on an 8-2 run to take a 2-1 lead.
Set four was all CSUSM as the Cougars raced to a 14-7 lead and never looked back, ultimately winning by eight.
Jenna Sandall (pictured) paced the Toros with 11 kills, while Silva tied for match-high dig honors with 17.
The Toros take to the road next weekend, battling Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
