Toros Drop 3-1 Decision to Crosstown Rival Cal State LA

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills dropped a 3-1 decision to crosstown rival Cal State LA this afternoon on Dignity Health Sport Park's Field 3, running its winless streak to four.

Nia Thompson connected for the lone Toro score in the 56th minute to account for the hosts' only tally as the Cardinal and Gold fall to 4-9 overall, and 1-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The visitors struck early twice, taking a 1-0 lead in the match's first 73 seconds before adding a second score with just under 10 minutes elapsed in the first frame, giving Cal State LA a 2-nil lead after the first 45 minutes of play.

That's when Thompson struck, taking a corner kick in front of the Golden Eagle net, and using her length to drive a low liner past CSULA keeper Areli Reyes to cut its lead in half.

CSULA, however, connected for its third and final goal of the match in the 86th minute to put the game away to post its fourth win in a row.

The Toros took 20 shots compared to just six for the Golden Eagles, with the visitors connecting for three goals in four shots on frame.

The Toros conclude their homestand on Sunday at 2:30 pm, hosting Cal Poly Pomona in the Dignity Health Sports Park's Main Stadium.  At halftime of that contest, the Toros will recognize the 1991 NCAA women's soccer National Championship team, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their crown.
