CARSON – The home of the LA Galaxy continues to be a daunting place for the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team.
Playing at the Dignity Health Sports Park – formerly The Home Depot Center and StubHub! Center – for the 11
th time in program history, the Toros fought hard to answer back but came up short in a 1-0 defeat to Cal Poly Pomona Sunday afternoon.
The Toros fall to 4-10-0 overall, 1-7-0 in CCAA play, with hopes of clinching a spot to the CCAA tournament officially diminished. Dominguez Hills also falls to 2-8-1 when playing in the stadium neighboring campus.
The only goal of the match came at a cost on the Toros' part. A poor punt back into the field fell back into the foot of Cal Poly Pomona's Allyssa Larkin, who then passed it to Emma Barrow and then to Taylor Scott, who chipped it over Toro keeper
Ashley Correia.
Holly Kaemerle came within inches of tying the match in the 78
th minute.
Julia Burdick delivered a perfect header in the box as Kaemerle broke away from the defensive line and force a 1-on-1 with the keeper, only her shot hit the left post.
Another close chance came in the 86
th minute, Kaemerle got a toe on it but missed the first attempt,
Julia Burdick got the rebound and her shot just missed the goal.
The Toros wrap up the road portion of their 2021 returning season starting with Cal State San Bernardino at 12:30 p.m.
