ROHNERT PARK – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team stood toe-to-toe with the hottest team in the CCAA in 13
th-ranked Sonoma State. Although both sides were scoreless at halftime, the Seawolves capitalized on defensive mistakes to route the Toros 2-0 on a rare Thursday matchup.
Although Dominguez Hills (4-7-0, 1-4-0 CCAA, 3 Pts.) and Sonoma State (10-1-0, 5-0-0 CCAA, 15 Pts.) were 50-50 on the possession, the Seawolves edged the shooting column 12-8, including a 9-3 advantage in the second half.
The first goal in the 68
th minute was a costly mistake by the Toros. Lexi Zandonella-Arasa fired a shot from the top of the box that was stopped by
Alyssa Newsom, but the ball slipped under the Toros keeper and rolled across the goal line.
Sonoma State's second goal was earned by Malia Falk. She went one-on-one with a Toro defender up until she made a shot from the left side of the goal post inside the box that was unanswered.
The Toros return home Sunday to play host to San Francisco State. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m.
