ROHNERT PARK – Twentieth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills collected two goals in the span of 2:20. The first was courtesy of Sonoma State while
James Vlcek headed in the second one to make it the difference maker in the Toros 2-1 CCAA men's soccer win Thursday afternoon.
The Toros, winners of five straight contests and unbeaten in their last six, improve their record to 7-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the CCAA for 15 points. Though it is not quite time to start looking at the CCAA table, the Toros will say they have been keeping pace with 13
th-ranked Cal State LA, which also entered the day tied with CSUDH with a dozen points. The Golden Eagles take on Cal State San Marcos under the lights.
Dominguez Hills got its first goal of the match without having recorded one shot. In the 21
st minute, Sonoma State's Sebastian Bernal-Santos attempted to pass the ball back to his keeper Reinier Ter Riet but instead chipped it into his own goal, handing the Toros a 1-0 lead.
The Toros' first shot turned out to be Vlcek's goal in the 24
th minute.
David De Niz sent the ball into the box where Vlcek headed it in perfectly.
Sonoma State sliced the deficit down in half in the 73
rd minute but was limited to just one shot after that.
The Seawolves outshot the Toros 11-6 while Toro keeper
Dylan De Baldo made two saves in the first half and Francisco Aguilar made one in the second period.
Dominguez Hills returns to Toro Stadium to host SF State Sunday at 2 p.m. The last-place Gators are coming off a 2-2 draw at home with Cal State Monterey Bay today.
