Estrada's 3-Run Jack in the First Inning Enough to Win Series Opener

LOS ANGELES – Angel Estrada launched his first home run in a Cal State Dominguez Hills uniform, and it proved to be more than enough as the Toros silenced Cal State LA 4-1 to open the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series at Reeder Field Friday night.

Nick Henry and Pierson Loska each got on base via one-out singles to start the game and setup Estrada's two-out, three-run shot to right field.

While the Golden Eagles got a run across in their half of the first, it didn't prove to be enough. The Toros cashed in on another run in the fourth. Jose Jimenez drew a leadoff walk, took second on a groundout and scored on Grant Decatrel's RBI single to center.

The Golden Eagles pitching would limit the Toros to two singles the rest of the game.

As the Toros collected eight total hits on the night, Loska was the only one with two in the lineup.

Tristan Garnett made it through five innings to earn his second win of the season, despite giving up seven walks and two hits. He did strike out four. Ricardo Serrano went the rest of the way pitching shutout ball, striking out four and limiting the Golden Eagles to three singles to earn his first save of the year.

Saxon Andross went 5.1 innings for LA, striking out seven along the way.

The two sides meet again for game two at 5 p.m. Saturday.
