LA JOLLA – RIMAC Arena has never been a pleasant place to play for the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team.
Now the Toros don't have to worry about visiting anymore.
Dominguez Hills bid farewell to UC San Diego Thursday night after the Tritons trounced the Toros 91-58 in the final meeting between the two programs as NCAA Division II foes. The Tritons move into Division I and the Big West Conference this fall.
The loss increasingly hurts the Toros (10-12, 7-9 CCAA) chances in making the conference tournament. Coupled with Humboldt State's win at San Francisco State and Stanislaus State's loss to Sonoma State, the Toros are now 2.5 games behind the Gators and Warriors for the eighth and final spot to the postseason with five games remaining. The advantage does belong to the Toros as both the Jacks and Warriors each have three games left to play.
Ariana Harper responded to the rough day she had against Cal State Monterey Bay last weekend by dropping 22 points against the Tritons. A dozen of those points came from the second half.
Alzena Henry contributed to 10 points and 14 rebounds for her first double-double in nearly a month.
The Toros as a team shot 31 percent (22-for-71) from the field while the Tritons (19-4, 15-3 CCAA) never cooled down, shooting 45.3 percent (34-for-75).
Four different Tritons reached double figures in the scoring column with Tyla Turner scoring 17 off the bench.
Dating back to 2001, when UC San Diego joined the CCAA, the Toros went 3-16 inside RIMAC Arena.
Dominguez Hills wraps up the tour in San Diego County at Cal State San Marcos Saturday at 1 p.m.
