IRVINE - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team split two games on the first day of the Concordia Kickoff Classic, Friday at Orange County Great Park. The Toros defeated Azusa Pacific 12-5 in five innings, but then fell to Hawai'i Pacific 7-4.

The Toros are now 1-1 and will take on Biola, Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. as part of the second day of the tournament.

CSUDH 12, APU 5 (5 innings)
The Toro offense was on fire with 12 runs on 13 hits and junior
Alyssa Olague threw a complete-game shutout to defeat Azusa Pacific 12-0 in five innings. Olague gave up only three hits and struck out eight, one shy of her career-high.

Kelcy Telles went 2-for-3 with three runs and a RBI. Senior
Chenoa Au hit 2-for-3 with three RBI. Senior
Jade Loe was perfect from the plate (2-for-2) with two runs and an RBI.

The Toros struck right from the start, as Telles singled, took second on a groundout and came home on Au's hit to the outfield to lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

CSUDH scored five more in the second as junior

Dafne Bravo drew three consecutive walks to load the bases. Senior
Kendelle Messersmith came up with a clutch double to plate Wenger and Loe. A Telles single up the scored Bravo and a throwing error brought in Messersmith. Au's sacrifice bunt brought home Telles as the Toros gained a 6-0 advantage.

The Toros extended their lead to 7-0 in the third as Loe tripled and came in on Bravo's single. CSUDH scored five more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 12-0 run. The Cougars were able to get two runners on base in the top of the fifth, but Olague was able to get the outs necessary to conclude the game in five innings.

HPU 7, CSUDH 4
CSUDH gave up 16 hits for seven runs and could only muster one run in the first six innings and fell 7-4. Telles went 3-for-4 with a RBI. Wenger hit 2-for-3 and Loe was 1-for-2 with a RBI.

HPU scored two runs in the first before the Toros answered in the bottom of the second with a RBI single from Loe to plate freshman
Kaylee Hull. The Sharks scored three in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a six-run lead.

CSUDH tried to rally with three runs in the seventh, but ultimately fell by three. Messersmith hit a RBI single to plate freshman

Karlee Rivera scored on a fielding error.
