POMONA –
Ahlisha Henderson scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team couldn't find a way to leap over Cal Poly Pomona in a 70-63 defeat at Kellogg Arena Saturday night.
It was Henderson's best performance since she scored 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds at Fresno Pacific back in November.
Ariana Harper was another big contributor by scoring 14 points.
Despite the loss, the Toros (7-9, 4-6 CCAA) dominated the rebounding column, 47-35.
Dijour Ledbetter led the effort with nine.
The Toros would make 24-of-67 (35.8 percent) of their shots around the perimeter.
Cal Poly Pomona (11-5, 7-3 CCAA), meanwhile, went 27-for-56 (48.2 percent) while hitting nine of those shots from 3-point range. Jayda Villareal led the Broncos with 20 points while Ayah League scored 15 off the bench.
Free throws became a missed opportunity for the Toros all night, going 11-for-22 on the line. Turnovers were also a factor in the game as the Broncos scored 22 points off the Toros miscues.
Trailing by as many as a dozen in several points of the second half, the Toros brought the deficit down to 60-57 with 3:07 left in the game. The Toros kept it close until the Broncos went on a 6-2 run within the final minute.
The Toros return home to the Torodome Thursday, taking on Humboldt State in the only meeting of the year. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
