OT Golden Goal from Simones the Difference in Toro Win

CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team got its first win of the season, taking down Fresno Pacific in a non-conference matchup by a final score of 1-0, Friday at Toro Stadium.

The Toros are now 1-1-1. The Sunbirds are winless at 0-3.

The game was scoreless until the 101st minute. Sophomore Patricia Rubio-Martinez flicked a ball to junior Madeleine Simones who collected the ball and hit a right-footed shot into over the FPU goalkeeper Briggitta Eggertsdottir's outstretched hands and into the back of the net.

The two teams were even 18-18 on shots. The Toros had six shots on-goal in the second half of regulation and first period of overtime, but could not come away with the game-winning score until the second overtime period.

Toro notes: Sophomores Kelly Almazan and Vanessa Campos have played every minute on the field this season … Junior Jessica Neighbors got her first start and recorded seven saves … Simones recorded her first career goal as a Toro ... The Toros have now won their last two matchups against FPU ... In 2018 at Fresno, CSUDH took down the Sunbirds in a similar 1-0 overtime result.
